jot.jot team is pleased to declare that out of 3,689 entries from 91 different countries, BaBa easy-chair together with BaBaBa modular seating system (designed by Iskos-Berlin) have made it onto the Dezeen Awards longlist. Accordingly, this entry has now been passed onto the panel of leading industry figures to decide on the shortlist and ultimately, the winner of each category.
Consequently, the longlist will be judged by a panel of designers and industry figures, including Benjamin Hubert, Paul Priestman and Mette Hay. The shortlist selected by the judges will be announced in August, while the winners will be revealed in a ceremony in London in November.
Dezeen Awards is a new annual awards programme, which identifies the world’s best architecture, interiors and design, as well as the studios and the individual architects and designers producing the most outstanding work. It is organised by Dezeen, the world’s most popular and influential architecture and design website, Dezeen Awards is the benchmark for international design excellence and the ultimate accolade for architects and designers everywhere.
Dezeen Awards 2018 will be judged by an international panel comprised of 75 leading figures from the architecture and design world, which means that Dezeen Awards will have unprecedented credibility and reach. Judges include architects David Adjaye and Rossana Hu, interior designers India Mahdavi and Afroditi Krassa, and designers Benjamin Hubert and Formafantasma. The judges will be supported by Dezeen’s award-winning editorial team.
The judging criteria have been carefully considered in order to ensure that winning projects are not only beautiful and innovative but also strive to benefit users and the environment, as it is believed that good design today can not ignore issues such as social impact or sustainability, therefore projects that incorporate positive thinking in this area will be looked for.
Awards include categories for architecture, interiors and design – the three key areas that Dezeen writes about. This means that Dezeen Awards is a comprehensive annual survey of the best work across the major fields of 3D design. There are 30 categories: 10 each for the sectors of architecture, interiors and design – the core areas that Dezeen covers. In each sector there are eight project categories and two studio categories. The six studio categories have been specifically created to highlight the architects and designers producing the most outstanding work. For the project categories, judges are looking for entries that best fit the three judging criteria. These are:
Beautiful: though the beauty is subjective but the judges will be looking out for aesthetic rigour, good detailing and good use of materials.
Innovative: does it incorporate original thinking or address a problem in a new way? Whether there is an evidence of fresh approaches and new ideas or not.
Beneficial: the project should show respect and consideration for users and the environment.
In addition to the thirty categories, there will be three special Ultimate Dezeen Awards. These will go to the best project overall from the all winners of the architecture, interiors and design categories. Winners will be decided by our master jury.
The shortlists for all the awards categories will be announced in August 2018, which later will be published on the Dezeen Awards website.
Winners of the inaugural Dezeen Awards will be announced at a dazzling ceremony in London on 27 November. This will be the highlight of the architecture and design year. The winners of each category will also compete to be named design project of the year – one of nine Ultimate Design Awards, a top tier of accolades that will honour the most outstanding design talent of the year.
